WHO’S SORRY NOW

I started buying and Selling on the Internet in 1998…Ebay…it was like Utopia for someone who so loved antique pieces.

In 2001 , I decided to make my living Buying and Selling via the Internet. People thought I was crazy. I would attend Auctions and Antique Shows and the Shop dealers would treat me like a Second Class Dealer. Snickering behind my back…and even the auctioneers making snide comments about an item being  Ebay quality.

Well it is now 2009 and 6 out of 10 Antique Shops have closed and it is estimated 8 of 10 will be closed by 2011. Due to not only the Economy but the changing buying habits of the customers…ie. The Internet.

Every high end Dealer and Shop Owner who once poo poohed Ebay are now selling under their alias names. Though still decrying the Internet for ruining their business instead of embracing the diversity of merchandise and customers which comes with the Net.

I adore that weekly I sell and meet people from China, New Zealand and Monte Carlo. I am open 24 hours a day and every day of the year. Having  the luxury of conducting business from my Home Office and dressing in my pajamas if I so choose.

Though the Internet Business is down for all dealers, certainly not the extent that Shop business is feeling. Escalating Rent and wages paid to employees is making it almost an impossibility.

I salute all my brother and sister Internet Antique Pioneers and would love to hear from you…

So Who’s Sorry Now?
