Lovely style and shape.
Circa 1840 to 1850 Palais Royal..
Lid has a musical center motif with torches flanking.
Box center with quiver ribbon and torch and back is similar.
Interior is decorated with ribbon floral and garlands. Lined with old silk.
And the best is the bottom with flowers and fleur de lis in a cherkerboard pattern.
I have never seen so much decoration on one box.
Missing one small strip of mop at the lid side. A bit of gold inlay is missing.
Though for over 175 years old still quite lovely.

Very hard to see but it is there...priced as is...would have been double without this small chip.

Wonderful old piece with cast hinges.
Front is a beautiful painting of elegant gentlemen on horseback perhaps out for a hunt. Lower scene of winged putti in the clouds over a castle.
Back a pastoral landscape with rose border.
Binding of La Promenade 1668
And my favorite part is the marbled sides as a Trompe L'oeil effect for pages.
Interior is lined in gold paper. I think it was most probably used as a Bonbonniere.
So rare and beautiful...Condition has been repaires. A crack in the center of the front cover above the putti. It has been repaired to appear as part of the road.
If it were perfect would sell in excess of $2500.

You will never see another....could have deaccessioned from the Lourve or from another wonderful French Museum.
The finest of Mother of Pearl and beautifully carved box with a fruit and bird motif on the exterior.
Box lid is lined in sterling silver.
18 kt gold mounts opens to the original ghostly silvered mirror.
2 smaller boxes with gold applied floral decoration open up for the storage of the patches.
Other area is for the mother of pearl gold mounted brush.
I have been told that often a lady would use some sort of sealant to attach the patch and the brush would brush away the residue.
Remarkable condition for almost 300 years old. No chips or cracks. Gold patina is wonderful as well as silver.
Certainly a piece from the Wealthy and perhaps the Royal Court.
As one of my best customers will say...It is so beautiful it makes me want to cry...

Box is approx. 2 by 4 1/4 inches and Micro Mosaic is approx. 2 1/4 by 3 1/4 inches.
Champleve enamel box in a leaf and vine decoration sets upon 4 ball feet.
The Mosaic is a masterpiece.....at touch and look appears as a painting...the trademark of the Roccheggiani workshop. Roccheggiani worked from 1856 to 1864 at the Vatican...his Micro Mosaics hold the record for price. $500,000. and recently a large piece of his sold for over $300,000.
The box opens to reveal the symbol of the Vatican Workshop and the name Roccheggiani Roma.
Condition of the Mosaic is perfect..no missing tesserae, no repairs and no chips or cracks.
The box is worn as expected. The interior silk also.
You will never find another piece of this quality and provenance at this price

Where do I begin..Most probably Bacarat Crystal base with Dore Bronze castings of Flower Garlands and Ribbon.
Lid, opens from both sides, terra cotta enamel work with more Dore decoration and small yellow porcelain rose buds.
The handle, which even has bronze castings inside the handle, is decorated with a butterfly and 5 additional pink flowers.
I see a bit of restoration work around the butterfly and missing 2 yellow buds on one side.
A stunning box which be the highlight of any collection.

| Opens to the lid inlaid as a Wreath inscribed Souvenir 1847.
The box contains 4 compartments inlaid lids with the same shields as on the lid.
Different floral decorations on each individual lid. The workmanship is superb.
Each box contains the reticulated carved and etched counters.
Each counter's back is engraved with a highly stylized Monogram.
The front of the rectangular counters are etched with a Chinese Village and 2 figures
The front of the round are 2 figures underneath a tree,
The front of the squares are also 2 figures in a setting.
They are exquisitely made and I have seen these individually sell for between $10 and $20. each and there are 110.
I am assuming this was made for a traveler....Euoropean...who came to China and had the set made. Pieces were often used for Mah Jong.
Condition is wonderful for being over 150 years old.
A few pieces of inlay shell are missing on the lid in the Coat of Arms...but almost all are in tact and so beautiful.
A one of a kind and you will probably will never see again

Gilt metal mounts and the interior of the lid is lined in a lavender silk textile.
The shoe has a pointed toe and a French heel and is hand painted with two reserves of romantic figures in a pastoral setting. The reserves are surrounded by gilt decoration and a pink ground.
The white porcelain is decorated with sprays of polychrome flowers...the interior also has the painted sprays.
Marked on the underside in cobalt blue....with crossed swords but most likely Samson of Paris or other excellent porcelain maker.
Overall wonderful condition with just a small chip to the lid corner by the rim.

6 Classical Painted figures on a black background. - 1 or 2 do remind me of those I have seen on the walls of Pompeii. They are superbly painted by a master and are approx. 3 1/4 by 4 inches each.
Sets upon 6 Octopi...with cast tentacles and balls.
Each column is adorned with the same decorated look of the tentacles.
The lid is covered in a canopy of the decoration which also looks like six Octopus fleur de lis...
I have never seen anything so intricate!
Interior is covered in old silk with box trim beautifully engraved.
Condition is wonderful though in need of a cleaning.
I see only one small area of missing bronze which is in the lid canopy

On the underside of the box lid is written: 1858 Jane Johnson A present from Scarbro. On the bottom of the box: Center agate added 1861.

Lid has a very good miniature portrait on ivory of a gentleman signed Gustave. The lid is trimmed in tested 14 kt gold and so the box was quite special and expensive when made.
Sitter has a wonderful face with grey hair and blue eyes. Dark blue jacket with white vest and white tied fouchard shirt. Covered in original glazing.
2 part box. Chips to bottom of box and a portion of the shell box interior trim is missing.
Portrait is good and so box is priced fairly to sell.

| 1817 French Papier mache with gold gilt mounts with silvered glass framed Miniature painting.
Approx. 3 inche sin diameter and 1 1/2 inches tall.
I recently purchased a sweet collection of Antique Bonbonniere Dragee Candy boxes from France....and I think this piece is the best.
2 piece box and interior of turquoise papier mache with gold gilt trim. An off white diamond raised pattern exterior.
Lid is a masterpiece with center a Miniature painting of a woman with child at a harp a French music stand at the side with candles.She sits upon a French Recamiere and has the look of Madame Recamiere. The painting is trimmed in silvered glass.
Bottom of box has a French saying and 1817. Loosely translates with repsect.
Held a few delicate chocolates or French dragees much like our sugared Jordon almonds.
Overall in good condition for almost 200 years old with a bit tarnish to the glass, a bit of foxing to the interior and long ago someone placed a piece of tape around the lid edge

| Large 18th C English Enamel Painted Table Snuff Box. Approx. 1 1/2 by 1 3/4 by 3 inches. A large sized table snuff box. Fabulous and rare box. Paintings are quite good. Lid has the scene of ships at a seaport and in the front is a family..Young boy is trying eo explain something to his father while the father is pointing to the ship. The mother has her back turned with a small dog vying for her attention. A second dog is scampering near the boy. Every inch is painted with the exterior focusing on the pastoral life style of the late 18th C . The clothing and the manner of the painting is indicative. Bronze mounts open to reveal a lavender sepia painting of what looks to be a castle with a plm tree in the desert...quite unusual. The interior and the bottom of the box is a painting of a butterfly. Perhaps a symbol for the artist or the maker. So charming. Over 200 years old and some damage as expected. 2 hairline cracks to the interior box and the 3 corners where the bronze mounts are settled have had some repair. The mounts are loose though in good condition. Fabulous and unique box |

Where do I begin...Lid has an oval Miniature Masterpiece of a mother and daughter that has remnants of a signature on the bottom right side. Magnificently painted.
Exterior of box is Shell in a dark caramel color with Gold latch and trims.
The interior color of the gold took my breath away. Quality is wonderful. There are 3 marks on the box which are so hard to see...though they represent the gold, makers and French control marks.
For over 200 years old the condition is amazing.
Obviously owned by a pre Revolution family of Wealth and Power.
For the Sophisticated Collector who wants a real tangible asset and quality and Antiquity

| Very rare English 18th C Rolled Paper Parchment Filigree Box.
Approx. 2 3/4 by 3 3/4 by 5 inches long.
Truly amazing...made by rolling up of paper or parchment in order to create delicate coils which were then attached to the surface of the box. The end of the page was gilded or colored , so as to give the impression of rolled metal work. Carcas of box looks to be of mahogany painted and retrofitted the in the 1800's to fit a music box.
Lid has a center miniature painting of a young maiden. Lid also has 4 corner designed tuip like flowers.
On this entire box I see only one missing coil.
Amazing condition for over 200 years old...with much of the gilt still present on the ribbon work of the paper.
Music box is included and seem to be working though needs a proper key.
First one I have ever owned as they are usually a small fortune and the best condition I have seen.
For the sophisticated collector of the rare and the unusual. Seen only in the Reference Books such as page 141 of the Cummins Book Antique Boxes Inside and Out and pages 117 and 118 of the Clarke and O'Kelly book Antique Boxes Tea Caddies, & Society 1700-1880

Quality... Lid features a carved mother of pearl Pastoral setting of a young man in the forefront with raised hands. What looks to be a duck besdie him with buildings to include his home to the far left. Tree tops above and a fencing to the right. So unusual and beautifully created. Interior and bottom is an oval piece of mother of pearl.
Tested high gold at least 18 karat and weight is approx. 9 grams.
The value is in the rarity and the age of the piece.
Latch in good working order, gold color with little wear. Just a small crack to the top trim of the mother of pearl.

They are so valued by the Familys who have owned them. The box has 13 Eglomise painted glass panels featuring a man and woman urns of flowers and side panels of exotic locales. Made by Prisoners of War aboard ships to pass their time with what resources were handy. Mostly carcasses of whales. Box slides off to reveal 30 ebony and bone Dominoes. the bone work of the box is quite fine with a scalloped design and the box itself is peaked at both ends. Bottom has 3 bone knob circles are pierced in the center so that the thread can pass through without the need to take the spolls out of the box. indicating is was most a sewing box.
A very similar piece is on page 122 of Antique Boxes by Clarke and O'Kelley. Estimate is $2000.
This box is a fraction .
Interior lid has a small mirror.
Box interior has 2 lids with star centers and box is divided into 4 sections.
Some wear indicative of age though coloration is quite good.

Box is painted with scroll work and florals around the box and the bottom is a scene with sheet music, doves, a tambourine and and recorder. Quite wonderful.
A true Boite a Mouche with the interior compartmentilized with gilt base and floral painted lids covering the boxes. The lid is lined in faux tortoise shell.
Many are called patch boxes though this is the real thing.

Wonderful antique dedicated to the Victories of Napoleon. Grey/brown antique horn shaped into the famous Napoleon hat and the lid is carved with the Vendome column and a bottom inscription. Thr column is raised and quite nice. There is wear to the inscription and I can only make out the first word Napoleon.
Bottom looks to have had an ancient repair with an imbedded old staple.

Approx. 12 1/2 by 10 by 4 inches.
Cedar lined interior with the stamp for J. Weidman Wien Babergerstrasse.
Lid is beautifully designed with a dark caramel colored shell in a scroll and flourish design. gold gilt acanthus border. 4 inch oval with period print and glass covered. gold gilt frame. Crack in glass and easily replaced.
Use was for documents or the very best of Jewlery and Objects.
Box is covered in faux tortoise with gold gilt scroll work . Original key is included.
Some wear to box indicative of the age.

| Rare 18th C French Mourning Box in brick red Compostopn with Tortoise Shell interior and Superb Miniature painting on Ivory of the Arm of God being led by ribbon by a cherub.

Very rare Mourning Subject matter. This is the 1st one that I have seen outside of refernce books.
Red composition exterior is inlaid with pewter pique around the lid and the box. Interior is a dark Shell.
The painting is approx. 2 1/2 inches in diameter . Blue sky background with clouds An arm with bracelet comes from the clouds and signs in the book...L'Amitie...Friend. Winged and curly haired cherub is the guide pulling a blue ribbon.
Superb consition. No cracks and strong colors.

| Approx. 1790 French Ivory Snuff Box trimmed in high karat gold with a Miniature painting on ivory of the Balloon flight from 1783 at Versailles.
Box is approx. 2 1/2 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall.
Subject matter is so rare and so declarative of the reign of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Evertrhing was over the top!
Box is trimmed in a double gold chain and the portrait has a gold engraved rim. The balloon is decorated with gold as well as the fence, the center crown and the lettering.
The balloon in royal blue and gold, with what looks like their cargo, is flying in the center.
Crowds are waving in the distant below.
There is French lettering which looks to be: Le GBNIE ELEVE LA DOU CRUR?
The Montgolfier brothers were the French Wright Brothers of Ballooning.
This painting looks to be dedicated to their September 19, 1783 first passenger flight. This happened at Versailles with Marie and Louis looking on as well as their French court and another 130,000 invited guests.
The passengers were a sheep, duck and rooster who flew in the basket suspended below the balloon. The flight was approx. 2 miles and landed safely.
Used for snuff or patches, this is a rare and wonderful piece besides having a wonderful Historical Perspective.
Seldom comes onto theMarketplace. Another , though not as decorated and without the gold is selling for $4500.
Patina is wonderful . One tiny hair line crack to the box.
I hate to banter about the term museum piece but this would certainly qualify as such.

| 18th C French Vernis Martin painted Bonbonniere Box with natural tortoise shell interior and lid is painted with a scene of cherubs.
Superb quality. Approx. 3 inches in diameter and 1 1/4 inches tall.
I believe box is of papier mache covering the shell.
Lid is magnificently painted with 3 winged cherubs. In a cloud background, one is holding an arrow, the other a flower wreath and the third is lying down with a come hither repose.
Most definitely a box signifying Love and Attraction. A rare piece of chocolate or a covered almond , presented in the box, would have been the real prize of the time.
Impossible to find and in wonderful condition. Painting a Masterpiece

Lid depicts the lift off the red ballon over a Sea side area with Ladies and Gentleman dressed in 18th C fashion.
Since the 1st recorded flight of a Hot Air Balloon in 1783 in Paris, the subject matter has become a great source of collectibility.
The early pieces are quite impossible to find. Added to the value is the box is in superb condition. Strong paint and no chips or cracks,

I think of this as the Victorian equivalent of the Whoopee Cushion or pretend dog doo doo.
When an unsuspecting Man would be offered snuff and he would open the lid...out popped the snake.
Perhaps an Allegory even then for the evil of tobacco.

Approx. 3 1/2 inches long and 2 1/2 inches tall. Lid and front and toe are all decorated with brass stud pique.
Sole is an inlaid lighter colored wood to give it a worn look, quite clever.
Surface of the shoe is rough to give a dimensional quality.
Lid is lift off.
